Brenda Bush Photography | Newborn Photographer | New York City
It's never too late to photograph your baby. You will never regret capturing that moment in time. The ideal time for newborn photos is within the first 14 days however babies are often photographed as newborn up to about 4 weeks old. And even beyond 4 weeks, depending on the baby. I photograph babies of all ages and I will get beautiful photos of your baby at 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 7 weeks, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months.
There are many reasons people wait to photograph after the first couple of weeks.
extended hospital stay
extenuating circumstances like illness
not having the time to research and schedule a photographer
not having the money
pandemic lockdown and restrictions
cultural tradition
Advantages to Photographing Older Newborns
There are definite advantages to photographing babies when they are a little older 2-4 weeks. Older babies have mastered eating. Once they get a full belly, they are typically content awake or asleep. Older babies have often filled out a little more than those freshly newborn.
Why the 14 day 'golden window' for newborn photos?
After two weeks babies become much more alert, less flexible and no longer like to be swaddled. Things like acne and colic can develop which make classic newborn poses challenging. But honestly, I've photographed super fussy 8 day old babies and had 9 week old babies that were a dream to photograph. I always try to set expectations with parents. An experienced photographer will be able to get good photos at any age.
As a newborn photographer I will always love the soundly sleeping naked newborns artfully curled up classic newborn poses. I love to photograph babies within 14 days of birth whenever possible. But by choice or by chance, it's not always possible. It's never too late to photograph. Embrace the moment, older babies, their bright eyes, and their smiles. You will never regret capturing any moment in time of your precious baby.
